The Newcastle Thunder Community department is at the forefront of the club’s activity to grow the game in the North East of England.
Two-time winners of the Championship & League 1 foundation of the year award, the department delivers a range of development programmes including the RFL’s flagship Sky Try programme along with a growing programme of coaching camps during school holidays.
Employing three community development officers along with Steve Beaty as the Newcastle Thunder Community Manager, the department is undergoing exciting expansion as the sport gears up for an exciting year.
With the sport in the north east seeing a 40% growth in participation over the past five years, the addition of three new members of staff will see the foundation’s programmes result in more players than ever before participate in the game.
Currently focused on club development in the North of Tyne, South of Tyne and Tees Valley the Foundation will also be launching new programmes to engage the north east community by using rugby league as a vehicle to improve mental and physical well-being.
