Northumbria Uni Takeover: The Ultimate Match Day Experience

Get ready, Northumbria! On Saturday, 2nd May, we are descending upon Blaydon Rugby Club for a massive Newcastle Thunder Takeover Day.

We’ve lined up a double-header across Newcastle Lightning and Newcastle Thunder's cup and league fixtures. 

The action kicks off at 1:00 PM with the Newcastle Knights taking on the York Barbarians in round one of the Yorkshire Men's League Cup. The main event kicks off at 4:00 PM, where Newcastle Thunder goes head-to-head with the Batley Bulldogs in the Betfred Championship.

Between matches, expect high-energy live entertainment, appearances by the Northumbria Northstars cheerleaders, and throwback sports competitions to keep the good times rolling.

Your £5 ticket is your entry into the biggest prize draw of the year. Here is the step-by-step breakdown of how you can win your tuition fees:

1. The Ballot - Every student who purchases a ticket using the "TAKEOVER" code and provides valid student membership details will be automatically entered into our pre-game ballots.

2. The Qualifiers - Ballots will be drawn prior to the curtain-raiser fixture. Selected students will head onto the pitch for an Old School Sports Day showdown — think sack races, egg-and-spoon, and high-stakes fun. The winners of these games will then face off in a hilarious and intense inflatable Sumo Wrestling challenge.

3. The Grand Finale - The Halftime Kick - The field will be whittled down to one ultimate finalist. At halftime during the Newcastle Thunder game, this lucky student will step up to the mark for The Wylam Brewery Kick Challenge. You get one attempt to hit the target for these prizes:

• Tier 1 (The Flush): The ball must land in the barrel and be retained within without making prior contact with the ground.
• PRIZE: £9,500 (1 Year of Uni Fees)
  
  
• Tier 2 (The Direct Hit): The ball must strike any part of the external frame or branded skin of the target "on the full" (before touching the ground).
• PRIZE: Crate of Wylam Beers and Crate of TREB
  
  
• Tier 3 (The Bounce): The ball must strike any part of the target structure after making exactly one contact with the synthetic playing surface.
