Santi returns to Thunder

Newcastle Thunder can confirm forward Brenden Santi has returned to Newcastle Thunder ahead of the 2026 Betfred Championship season, re-joining the club where he first made his mark in the English game.
The Australia-born Italian international initially signed for Thunder ahead of the 2020 League 1 campaign, making 5 appearances in his first spell with the North East side before moving on to build a varied and accomplished career in Rugby League.
Across his career he has amassed over 130 club appearances and 24 tries, showcasing his durability, physicality, and leadership in the forward pack.
At international level Santi brings further pedigree, having earned 15 caps for Italy and scored four tries while representing his nation at multiple Rugby League World Cups.
His return to Thunder ahead of 2026 adds a seasoned Championship campaigner to Graham Steadman’s squad and reinforces Newcastle’s ambitions as they look to establish themselves firmly in the second tier.
Graham said "Santi’s experience from the NRL with Wests Tigers to key roles in League One and the Championship will be vital as the club as we push for consistency and competitiveness next season."
