French full-back Rostang joins Thunder

Newcastle Thunder have today confirmed the signing of French full-back Maxime Rostang as part of their preparations for the 2026 Betfred Championship campaign. 

Rostang arrives from Albi Rugby League XIII, where he was a key player in the club’s 2024/25 Super XIII title-winning season in France’s Elite 1 Championship. During that campaign, he featured regularly for Albi, contributing tries and strong all-round play as the Tigers ended the club’s long wait for a national crown. 

Rostang’s time in France saw him make 21 appearances for Albi throughout the 2024/25 season, scoring and creating opportunities from full-back as the side powered to the Super XIII championship. His performances in important matches, including scoring in both the semi-final and final of the title run, showcased his ability to perform under pressure and influence games at the highest level of French rugby league.

His arrival in the North East gives Thunder an experienced presence at the back with a proven track record of success. Rostang’s European rugby league experience adds further quality to Newcastle’s squad as the club aims to compete strongly throughout the 2026 Betfred Championship season.
