Northumbria University, in partnership with Newcastle Thunder, is calling on aspiring rugby league players to be part of the next generation by attending its upcoming Rugby League Open Day on Wednesday 3rd December at 12:00, hosted at the university’s state-of-the-art Sport Central facility.
The event is open to anyone aged 16–18+ who is interested in combining high-performance rugby league with academic study at Northumbria University. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the university’s elite sporting facilities, learn about available sports scholarships, and meet staff and coaches who support students both on and off the field.
Participants will also experience the excitement of a live game day, as Northumbria takes on Nottingham at 17:00, offering a real insight into the competitive environment and team culture.
Northumbria is proud to be home to the UK’s number one student rugby league programme, competing at national level and benefitting from coaching led by former professional player Jason Payne. Students have access to comprehensive support services, scholarship packages, and a wide range of academic courses. Both Northumbria University and Newcastle Thunder are working together to build stronger links between the clubs and support the growth of Rugby League in the North East across collegiate sport and open age rugby in the professional and amateur game.
Prospective students can secure their place at the Open Day by emailing jason.payne@northumbria.ac.uk.
