Thunder squad confirmed for Summer Bash clash

Newcastle Thunder head coach Chris Thorman has today confirmed his 21-man squad for Sunday’s Summer Bash tie with Sheffield Eagles.

Taking place on Sunday, May 28 the second meeting of the season between the two clubs will kick-off at 1:45pm at the LNER Community Stadium.

Thunder will be looking to improve on the 44-20 defeat at the hands of the Eagles last month and have seen several changes to the squad that narrowly lost out to York Knights two weeks ago.

New signing Evan Simons is included in the squad for the first time this season, following his return to the club last month and Wakefield Trinity loanee Dane Windrow maintains his place having debuted for his parent club in their Challenge Cup defeat to Leigh Leopards last week.

Trialist Oscar Thomas is also included once more having featured against York Knights last time out and Hull FC duo Denive Balmforth and Nick Staveley are also named.

Staveley debuted for Hull FC in their Challenge Cup victory over Castleford Tigers and recently signed a contract extension with the club.

Mac Walsh returns to the fold following a number of impressive performances for the Reserves side and centre Marcus Walker, Hull KR loanee Connor Moore and captain Alex Foster all miss out due to injury.
