Scotland international Oscar Thomas joins Thunder on trial

Newcastle Thunder is delighted to have experienced utility back Oscar Thomas join the club on trial.

The 29-year-old has been playing his rugby in France’s Elite One Championship with Villeneuve XIII RLLG this year having joined the club from Workington Town ahead of the 2023 season.

The utility back has a wealth of Championship experience under his belt having enjoyed spells at Bradford Bulls, Sheffield Eagles, London Broncos, Whitehaven and Workington Town.

Thomas has also featured for Swinton Lions as well as current League 1 sides London Skolars and Rochdale Hornets.

With over 165 career appearances, Thomas has amassed an impressive points return, with a career total of 414 to his name, which includes 30 tries, 144 goals and six drop goals.

Thomas also holds international honours having represented Scotland 12 times, scoring four tries in the process.

Newcastle Thunder head coach Chris Thorman said: “Oscar has been playing in Elite One Division in France and I got to know him through my time at Workington.

“He’s got lots of Championship experience having been at the likes of Bradford and London Broncos.

“He’s a genuine utility back, who’s very talented and on his day he’s capable of playing anywhere in the back line."
