Thunder strike late to earn point at Barrow

Newcastle Thunder scored a late try to secure a hard-earned 24-24 draw with Barrow Raiders at Craven Park.

Following a delayed start of around five minutes as some players had been caught up in an incident on the M6 motorway, the Thunder were quickly on the scoreboard when hooker Craig Cook touched down following a swift break, with Benn Hardcastle making it 12-0 before Matt Holmes' converted try halved the lead going into the break.

The Raiders were level on 50 minutes when James Duerden's score was converted by Josh Ward, who then went over himself as the hosts led 18-12 only for Tom Ruedinger to quickly cancel the advantage. Max Wiper then put Barrow ahead again, but Cook Islands prop Vincent Rennie had the final say as Newcastle dramatically tied things again at 24-24.
