Newcastle Thunder confirm squad for season opener

Head coach Chris Thorman has today named his 21-man squad to travel to Heywood Road on Sunday, February 5 for their opening game of the Betfred Championship season.

Kicking off at 3pm, the match-up with newly promoted side Swinton Lions will be the first competitive fixture for Chris Thorman since his appointment of head coach last year.

With an influx of new signings coming in to the Thunder squad in the off-season, 10 players could potentially make their competitive debuts in Thunder colours.

The three university signings in Max Flanagan, Evan Lawther and Mac Walsh are all included alongside the international trio of Curtis Davies, Robert Tuliatu and Alex Young.

Nikau Williams and Marcus Walker are also named, as well as recently announced Hull FC loan signing Denive Balmforth and Hull KR loanee Connor Moore.

Returning for their second competitive spells at Thunder, Alex Clegg and Rhys Clarke are also part of the 21-man squad.

The season opener will also see competitive returns for Jack Johnson, Alex Donaghy, Jay Chapelhow, Ted Chapelhow, Mitch Clark, Connor Bailey, Brad Gallagher, Jake Anderson and newly appointed captain Alex Foster.
