NEWCASTLE THUNDER SET FOR FIRST LONDON CALLING

Broncos bucking ahead of Thunder rematch at Kingston Park

London Broncos provide the opposition for Newcastle Thunder this weekend as they make their first trip to the North East on Sunday for round 22 of the Betfred Championship.

Originally set to take on Thunder on home turf for the first time in 2021, a Covid outbreak within the home camp forced the cancellation of the match and thus this season will see the capital club play at Kingston Park for the first time.

The two sides met in London back in mid-May when Thunder inflicted the heaviest home defeat of the season so far on the Broncos with a 22-52 win at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

A nine-try showing on a balmy Friday evening was one of Thunder’s top performances of the season so far as they took a first-ever win over the Broncos and one that left then head coach Jermaine Coleman’s side mired in the relegation dog fight at the foot of the table.

Parting ways with the former Jamaican international after losing to Batley Bulldogs the following week, the tide began to turn for the Broncos after losing away to Workington in round 13.

Four wins in eight have seen them put daylight between themselves and their closest pursuers Dewsbury Rams, with head of performance Mike Eccles overseeing the renaissance of the former Super League side.

Both teams come into round 22 looking for a return to winning ways after losing at last weekend’s Summer Bash in Leeds.

The Broncos opened the 2022 jamboree on the wrong end of a 38-12 score-line at the hands of Sheffield Eagles, whilst Thunder pushed York City Knights throughout the last game of the weekend before the play-off chasers eased clear in the closing stages.

The first of two home games in the space of a week, the visit of the Broncos will see the club housing fans on the East side of the stadium for the first time since the visit of Wigan Warriors in pre-season.

Seating will be available to fans in the smaller clubhouse stand, whilst standing places will be available along the east touchline and part of the South Stand.

Full details of entry arrangements and refreshments will be confirmed this week, whilst tickets for the game are currently on sale.

Advance prices of £15 adults, £10 concession, £8 16-24-year-olds and £3 U16s are available until 12 Noon on matchday and can be booked by clicking here, calling 0191 214 5588 (opt 1) or by visiting the Kingston Park stadium box office.
