NEWCASTLE THUNDER CONFIRM ALEX FOSTER SIGNING

Alex Foster will be a Newcastle Thunder player from 2022, as the back row moves to the Betfred Championship club on a two-year deal from Castleford Tigers.

The 28-year-old is a highly-rated forward who has over 80 Super League appearances to his name, having made his professional debut with Leeds Rhinos back in 2013.

With 130 career games under his belt "Fozzy" also has a wealth of experience of the Betfred Championship, playing in the competition in 2015 with Featherstone Rovers and 2016 with London Broncos.

Joining Castleford in 2017, he has shown fearlessness, adaptability and dynamism during his time at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle and and played a big part in the club reaching both the Challenge Cup Final and Super League Grand Final, as well as lifting the League Leaders’ Shield in 2017.

A versatile player who can also feature at loose forward and centre, it is in the back-row that he expected to feature most for Thunder.

Speaking on his move to Kingston Park Stadium, Foster said: “it’s down to the ambition of the club, the plan for thee future and how this club is going to build over the next few years is really exciting for myself.

"The prospect of getting this club up to Super League would be one of the best achievements of my career. There is a lot of excitement around here and thought it was a great club and a great move for me at this point in my career.

Head coach Eamon O’Carroll said: “I’m delighted to have signed Alex for the next two seasons. He is a great player and a great person and I am really looking forward to working with him.

“He’s going to add a load of experience and dynamism into our pack and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in our shirt.

“Alex is excited about joining and has fully bought in to what we are striving to achieve and I can’t wait to get started with him and the rest of the squad.”

Foster will be sponsored for the 2022 season by Castle Commercial Cleaning Services, who will maintain the relationship that they have enjoyed with the player for the duration of his time at Castleford.

Marie Dyson, director said: "When we found out that Alex was being released by the Tigers we couldn't believe it as he is a great versatile player who has a lot to offer. He is very polite and the nicest young man that we know. He is very helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

"Though we're sad to see Alex leave Yorkshire, he has become a great friend and we have decided to sponsor him as a player at Newcastle Thunder so we can follow his career and also support him and his new club.
