Club stalwart Joe Brown will embark on his tenth season as a Newcastle Thunder player in 2018, after the Jamaican centre agreed on a new one year deal to stay at Kingston Park Stadium.

Closing in on 200 appearances for the club, Brown has been an integral part of Thunder’s squad since making a return to Tyneside in 2010 and has been a beacon of consistency over the last four years.

Scoring 27 tries over that time, Brown has for the last two seasons brought his considerable experience into a leadership role, co-captaining the side alongside fellow centurion Rhys Clarke.

His performances in Thunder’s colours have also seen Brown earn further international call ups Jamaica and take his tally for the Reggae Warriors up to 10, as the country continue to make progressive strides and move up the international rankings.

Equally at home in the centres or on the wings, his versatility is another of Brown’s key attributes, the Thunder head coach Jason Payne pleased to be able to call upon him again next year.

Payne said: “I’m delighted Joe has agreed to be with the club for another year. He is our longest serving player and I know how much he cares for the club and what it means for him to pull on the shirt.

“By his own admission, he is coming towards the end of his career but not that you would know it. He looks after himself really well and his performances last year were great. He gets through all the tough work coming out of our own end which is vital to get us on the front foot.

“Again I’m really happy that Joe is staying with us and I am looking forward to seeing what he can contribute in 2018.”

Brown said: “ I am delighted to sign again for Thunder everyone knows how much I love playing for this club and also being Co Captain alongside my best mate Rhys Clarke.

"Next Year is a vital year for us and i know how much work Jason Payne has put in over the off season to assemble a great squad with competition for places all over the park.

"On personal note I feel great at the moment and I am looking forward to having another solid Year! Everyone knows my personal target and that's to play another 2 seasons at Thunder which hopefully by then we will be in Championship."
